Remembering the Victims. Demanding Action.
Five years after the devastating floods of July 2021, and as the climate crisis continues to claim more lives worldwide, this ceremony brings together citizens, policymakers, and international institutions. We gather to show solidarity with everyone affected by climate disasters and to demand the urgent political action needed to prevent future tragedies.
During this gathering, renowned landscape architect Bas Smets will officially present the architectural vision and concept for the world's first permanent climate victims monument, which will begin construction in the following weeks.
Rather than a static memorial, this living archive will physically translate global climate data into geological layers of stone, ensuring the human cost of political inaction remains permanently visible at the heart of the European Quarter.
