Exhibition EU Parliament

Exhibition: A Catastrophe in the Heart of Europe

From 14 to 17 October 2025, the European Parliament in Brussels will host an exhibition marking four years since the devastating Western European floods of July 2021. Entire towns were destroyed, and 220 lives were lost. The exhibition takes place during the International Day for Disaster Reduction and looks back at what happened, how communities and NGOs responded, and what lessons must be learned for the future.

Climate Justice for Rosa will be part of the exhibit, bringing the perspective of young people directly impacted by the floods and how they have turned their grief into determination to fight for change.

The opening ceremony on 14 October (by invitation only) will feature speeches from survivors and civil society, as well as Members of the European Parliament. Benjamin Van Bunderen Robberechts, founder of Climate Justice for Rosa,, will call on politicians to take firm climate action so that countless more lives are not lost. Other speakers include MEP Pascal Arimont, MEP Sabine Verheyen, MEP Ralf Seekatz, MEP Jeroen Lenaers, and EU Commissioner Hadja Lahbib.

The exhibition invites visitors to remember, understand, and prepare — ensuring that tragedies like those of July 2021 are never forgotten, and that Europe builds the resilience needed for the future.
