COP30 - IOM Event: Youth and Indigenous Inclusion in Climate Finance and Human Mobility

At COP30, Climate Justice for Rosa founder Benjamin Van Bunderen Robberechts will join a high-level roundtable on how climate finance can better respond to the realities of people displaced or affected by the climate crisis.

The session, organised by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Brazilian Government’s Ministry of Environment, brings together policymakers, youth, and Indigenous representatives to explore how loss and damage funding mechanisms can become more inclusive.

Speakers include:

  • Rania Sharshr – Director, Climate Action Division, IOM (Moderator)

  • Ugochi Daniels – Deputy Director General, IOM

  • Diana Acconcia – Director, International Partnerships and Climate Finance, DG CLIMA (EU)

  • Benjamin Van Bunderen Robberechts – Youth activist, Climate Justice for Rosa (Belgium)

  • Nélida Tainá Rodrigues dos Santos – Indigenous COP30 Negotiator (Brazil)

The discussion will focus on integrating human mobility into climate finance frameworks, identifying barriers that prevent affected communities—especially young people and Indigenous populations—from accessing support, and developing recommendations for more equitable and accountable funding.

Goal: Strengthening youth and Indigenous leadership within global climate finance and ensuring that those most affected by climate-induced displacement have a real voice in shaping solutions.
